I can't recommend anywhere specific and others may be able to, however, we found very good food in most of the restaurants in the side streets off the main square. Half the fun was finding one we liked the look of and eating there.

If you are willing to walk a short distance, the areas of Place-St.-Géry and St.-Catherine have some good dining options and bars. I can't recommend anywhere specific, but St.-Géry is better for bars and St.-Catherine has seafood restaurants. There is another area close to the Grand' Place, Rue des Bouchers, which is full of restaurants and has touts outside calling people in. But you take your chances going there - some would call it a tourist trap, but not all the restaurants are that way. Aux Armes de Bruxelles is one with a good reputation, and Léon de Bruxelles, which is a chain, but an OK one. The first two areas I mentioned have more local clientele; Place St.-Géry in particular has a good vibe.

Aux Armes de Bruxelles is not just for tourists, and not just for mussels. It is a Michelin guide recommended restaurant. I have eaten there twice over many years and always enjoyed my meal and the service.

there are many Michelin recommended and "star" restaurants in Brussels. you can find them on the Michelin website
