Help! My periodontist just gave me a $4,000 "to do" list after having paid $2,000 to a dentist since January. Since I'm going to the above cities anyway, I desperately need to find a recommended dentist or periodontist who can at least do the full mouth root planing and scaling. I've googled and written to many but a recommendation would be much appreciated!

I like the idea of Rome and the Amalfi Coast, my vote would be for Positano as you could easily visit other places from there. And congratulations!
Sorry, posted to wrong threa.
I'd recommend you visit a dentist in Budapest because you get the most selection of dental clinics.

From your other thread I though you were having the dental work done in Bangkok?
Try someone in Prague. In Czech republic you always get the best quality for good price .So good luck.

Thanks, everyone. Although I had also looked into Budapest, I now see I would only have the time to do it in Prague. Has anyone heard of American Dental?

In case you change your mind and have it done in Budapest, we stayed at the Hotel Pest (would recommend it) and in the foyer we noticed brochures for dental work. I can't remember the company name but if you emailed the hotel they might be able to give you the details. Good luck.

Hi, i went to the clinic apollonia in Budapest beginning of June regarding to change 3 teeth, strengthen two front/down teeth and a cleaning.
they also request you signing a discharge 10 secondes before to fix on implant.
i arrived with a quotation of (about) 635euros and i paid a bill of (about) 965euros and less 2 tasks.instead to change one, they just emptied and re-filled.
works were suppose to last 5 days,so i took 10 days by security and to visit a bit the capital staying in a hostel. The very last evening i still was into the dentist seat at 9pm saying something going wrong on
one tooth and all the works weren't done.also as i arrived ,i did ask about my gum treatment, the coordinator just said"don't worry we are going to put a thin flat barre behing your teeth to strengthen the both of
those...bla,bla...nothing has been done about it!
they changed three times the invoice, changing step by step the content.i even got an invoice with a wrong date
be careful and refuse to sign this document because all implant must move a bit afterward.this is illegal!
after saying my my strange feeling on one of my new teeth,le Dr. Barna Bikfalvi took his hand bag and left right away saying just "au revoir".
i had my flight the next day at 10:50am,so too late for anything.
nowaday my teeth turned black after cleaning from the gum level, and i have a big pain when i eat under my tooth (the one that got somethiing wrong after implant)
i'm a no smoker and i have a very good dental hygiene.
p.s:get train and bus if you want to go from the airport to the center town,it will cost you ten times cheaper...and their appartment are very expensives.
friendly.

Unfortunately, can't say anything about Prague, but if you want to save money using cheap and high-qualified dental service, you shall go to Ukraine! For 2000$ you will get all procedurs that you want!!
How 'bout that! The Hungarian dentist speaks French. Also Fleece.
Ya get what ya pay for, I say.
RE: American Dental in Prague...we have been to Dr. Eric. Nice guy from Seattle. He is now in an office near Karlovo Namesti. I thought his prices were high compared to many in Prague, but I was happy with his service. Still, there are many good dentists here and I am not sure I will return to him.
I have a source for a ton of other dentists and will check it later today if you would like.

The thread is from Feb 2011. Her teeth would have fallen out by now
I don;t get going to a foreign country to a practitioner you don't know to have complicated dental work done. You have only one set of teeth - and if the work isn't done properly you can easily lose them.
If you are being quoted prices that are too high by your own dentist have a look at the dental schools in your own country. Granted the work will be by senior students, but it will be supervised by professors, you will all be speaking the same language and if there are any problems you have immediate and easy recourse.
IMHO this is like cut-rate heart surgery. It makes no sense whatsoever.
Caveat - I have no problem with having emergency work done on the spot wherever you may be - but I would work only with dentists that are recommended by your local embassy in the area (they know who is good and reliable).
Janis, thanks. I never even noticed! nytraveler, dental tourism is very well established, just as other types of medical tourism is. The US charges far too much for many procedures.
>>>IMHO this is like cut-rate heart surgery. It makes no sense whatsoever.<<<
As SloJan2 said, a lot of people travel for medical procedures because the prices in the US are so high compared to other countries. You can have first-rate doctors do your procedures that have trained in top US medical schools. A lot of Fodorites get procedures done overseas, particularly at Bumrungrad. They treat 420,000 international patients per year.

There are some things you may want to skimp on - get generic cereal of paper towels. When it comes to your health - the only thing acceptable is the best.
There are many excellent practitioners in western europe and quite a few in eastern euorope. But - you should not go to a random one (even in the US) unless you KNOW they are of the highest quality and you have good recommendations for them.
And - have at least two opinions/prices from quality practitioners in the US to compare to the suggestions of those in other countries.
And just because a lot of people do something doesn't make it a good idea. There are a lot of people who buy used cars without having them pre-examined by their own mechanics - but it's still a terrible idea.
