Delos from Paros or Naxos
Want to include a trip to Delos on my island hopping jaunt--is Mykonos a part of the Delos excursion?? Would it be better to go there from Naxos or Paros since I will be at both islands anout 3 days each. Is there just one company that provides the boat excursion or more than one ?(and if so which is the better more stabler boat company which would minimize sea sickness...which has the better outdoor deck, etc) . I am assuming I can get tickets a day or 2 before going to Delos. Is Delos open 7 days a week?? Thanks for your information.

The tour I have seen includes Mykonos and its the same boat that starts in Naxos, goes to Paros to pick up and then drops off in Paros before ending in Naxos. So I would probably do it from Paros as it would take less time.

Both excursion boats from Naxos stop at Paros on the way to Delos. They are the Naxos Star and the MV Alexander. If you go from Paros your time at sea will be shortened both going and returning since it's closer to Delos.
Both boats are fairly small so if the seas are rough then seasickness could be a problem. The seas get very rough in July and August.
Delos is closed Mondays.

Another factor to consider is the days these tours actually take place: both companies do the Delos/Mykonos tour on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. In July and August MV Alexander goes only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If you have the choice, I would recommend MV Alexander over Naxos Star. Both ships are the same length, but Naxos Star is a monohull, and rolls more in rough seas. You might enjoy this video clip of Naxos Star making its way to Mykonos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U68He8QjDR4
And, no, you can't avoid going to Mykonos on the tours, nor would you want to. Both boats spend about three hours on Delos (in the morning) which is enough for all but the most avid archaeology enthusiasts. It gets very hot on Delos, and there is little shelter from the sun. By lunchtime you will be ready for a cool drink in a Mykonos restaurant.

Are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday the only days you can get to Delos?? I will be in Paros just Friday and Saturday. My other option is to go to Delos on Thursday from Naxos that morning, drop off my luggage at Paros(if there is a luggage drop off spot and I am able to get off the boat and get back on???)since I was leaving Naxos that night to go to Paros. Would this work??

I'm not sure I understand your question, but there is no reason why you couldn't check out of your hotel on Naxos, board the excursion boat, see Delos and Mykonos, then get off on Paros at the end of the day. That would mean arriving at Paros on Thursday instead of Friday, but would save you the price of a ferry ticket from Naxos to Paros. I can't imagine the crew objecting to your leaving the luggage on the boat while you are exploring Delos and Mykonos, but you would have to ask.
Delos is open every day except Monday, but the tour boats from Naxos and Paros go only on Tue, Thu, & Sun. The same two companies (Naxos Star and MV Alexander) serve both islands.

Thanks Heimdall-- that was exactly what I was thinking but wasn't sure if the luggage could stay on board and if so would it be safe. Didn't know if it was the same boat that just stayed at Mykonos and waited for the passengers or a different one that came to pick them up

Hi bornintheusa,
The boats do a round trip of Naxos > Paros > Delos > Mykonos > Paros > Naxos, and you stay on the same one throughout the day. They do other excursions besides Delos/Mykonos, and return to the harbor at Naxos around 7 pm each day. Suggest you go down to the docks as soon as you arrive on Naxos, and ask the crew if it would be okay to leave your luggage on board during the trip. They will probably say yes, but it would be good to confirm beforehand.
Hi Wantogo,
Naoussa is the most convenient location to stay on Paros for excursions to Delos/Mykonos, as that's where the boats dock. On days they go to Santorini or Iraklia/Koufonissi they stop at Piso Livadi instead. If you are staying in Parikia, check the bus timetables, or take a taxi.

Yes — I have their brochure for reference purposes. If they keep to the same timetable this year, MV Alexander arrives at Naoussa on Paros for the Delos/Mykonos trip at 9:15 am, and returns at 6 pm.
