We are headed to Rome in late March for one week. We have lots to see in the city but would like to spend at least one day on a day trip. What suggestions do you have for day trips out of Rome? Other cities, events, places? We will likely do either Pompeii or Ostia Antica, so other suggestions would be great!
Thanks!

My first choice would be Orvieto--about 1:10 north of Rome by train. Pompeii is possible but will take some time. I would leave 5 days to see Rome--it takes that.
I agree with Orvieto for a day trip from Rome. If you have already been there, consider Ostia Antica.
I'd agree with Orvieto and Ostia Antica... these two links may give you some more insight into these two wonderful locations.

I would recommend NOT going to Pompeii on your one day. There are plenty of sites much closer to Rome. Pompeii is an ALL-DAY adventure from Rome. I'd save Pompeii, and southern Italy, for your NEXT trip!
We spent 3 1/2 days in Rome and a half day at Ostia Antica. I thought it was worthwhile and great to get out of the city.
