Day Trips from Dunfermline

Hello,
I will be staying in Dunfermline for almost two weeks in April. I won't have a car and I will be taking care of animals. This means I will need to be back in Dunfermline each evening. I am interested in historical sites and local happenings. I am almost 60 but am fit enough for plenty of walking and I'm not too concerned about weather...... Any suggestions for me?

40 minutes by train to Edinburgh, same line takes you to North Queensferry and Dalmeny for the Forth Bridges (you can walk across the road bridge)

X24 bus will take you to St Andrews

You'll have a great time - you can get lots of places in Fife by bus and by connecting through Edinburgh just about anywhere. For instance Stirling will take a little less than 2 hours by heading in to Waverly station and back out to Stirling. So a long-isg day trip but totally doable.

Glasgow would take about 90 minutes -- in to Haymarket station and then on to Glasgow.

You won't want for possibilities.

Oh - to clarify -- the trips I mention via Edinburgh are by train -- not bus.

I use this website to plan all my Scottish holidays. Choose the map covering the area you want and then follow the links. Dumfermline and Fife is here and there are lots of ideas.

Tourist Information is the best source of local happenings.
