Day Trip to Pompeii & Sorrento

It is possible to leave Rome early in the morning on the train, go to Pompeii and see Sorrento all in one day? I tried to check out the Circumvesuviana website but it's in Italian and I don't speak/read a word of Italian. We're going to Rome in November, and many of the tours to Pompeii from Rome are from April to October 31st.

Hi B,

It is possible.

It is also a very looooooong day.

Take the AV or ES* from Rome TE to Naples Centrale or Garibaldi (same station - different levels)

info is at www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Take the Circumvesuviana from the lower level of Centrale (Garibaldi) to Pompei Scavi.

Don;t worry about the schedule. The C is a commuter train.

From PS take the C to Sorrento.

What's the rest of your itinerary?

Leaving Las Vegas on 11/5, arriving Rome on 11/6. Friend from Ireland is flying to Rome and joining me on the 6th. We're both leaving for home on 11/13. She was in Rome over for a weekend with her husband so she's seen a few things. I've never been to Rome.

If you decide to do a day-trip to Pompeii, I wouldn't bother continuing on to Sorrento. After your time at Pompeii, go back to Naples, see some of the sights and have dinner. Then catch a late train back to Rome.

Don't do the day trip if rain is in the forecast.
