I am toying with the idea of going to Andalusia this holiday season. If I can't make it work this year, I will go next. I am wondering if it is feasible to go to Malaga as a day trip from either Granada, Seville or Cordoba. If so, is it possible to do via public transportation or would a car be better?
Without delving into my life story, I have personal reasons for visiting Malaga. Just want to be there for four or five hours.

You can look up train schedule at www.bahn.com. For actually purchasing you need to use www.renfe.es, but the latter is more temperamental. For bus, you can use www.alsa.es, for example.
By train Cordoba is the easiest. Hourly trains taking about an hour each way. From Sevilla, it is about 2 hours. From Granada, train takes too much time.
By bus, Granada is the easiest. Seville takes little bit longer than train and really takes a lot of time from Cordoba.

Yes, it's feasible. I normally wouldn't recommend without knowing the itinerary but your explanation on the personal reason is all we need to know.
I hope you are able to take this trip and the visit to Malaga is meaningful to you. It's a beautiful city.
Leely, I just returned from 3 days in Malaga and am happy to offer any advice based on my brief stay. The train station (complete with bowling alley!!) is within walking distance of the historic center, as well as the port area and the stretch of beach to the west that is lined with fish restaurants.

If I can get time off work and go this year, I think I would do Cordoba three nights w/day trip to Malaga, Granada two nights, Seville four nights. Does that sound about right and does the order make sense in terms of train/bus travel between cities? Flying from San Francisco, I haven't seen any open jaws that aren't nearly 24 hour itineraries so I will need at least one night in Madrid--though I would like more because I am a huge museum lover (the getting-time-away-from-work problem rears its ugly head here).
If you're going to do a daytrip from Cordoba to Malaga then 3 nights would be good. Another alternative would be to add a night to Sevilla (for a total of 5 nights) and visit Cordoba as a daytrip, and then have 2 nights in Granada and 2 in Malaga. The downside is that you only have Cordoba as a daytrip, which is doable and many people visit Cordoba this way. The upside is you'd have more time in Malaga. You could cut this several ways. I think it's good that you're not trying to do too much and have alot of 1-nighters and moving around in a 10 day trip coming from the west coast of the US.
