Day trip to BADEN
I am planning to visit Vienna in June and would like to make a day trip to Baden. Does anyone know the transportation options for getting there? and the cost + travel time?
Also, I'd like to check out one of the spas. Anyone have any comments about either the Caracalla Spa or Friedrichsbad (Roman-Irish Bath)?

A little confused...do you mean Baden, outside Vienna, or Baden-Baden, in Germany? When did Baden, outside Vienna, get a Caracalla spa and Friedrichsbad? I thought they were only in Baden-Baden (which is far from a day trip, unless you were flying). At any rate, Caracalla in Baden-Baden (Germany) is a very beautiful, modern spa. It costs about 13 euros for a few hours there. Treatments (like a back massage) are extra. The Friedrichsbad is a beautiful, traditional spa. It's also a co-ed nude spa (at Caracalla you wear your bathing suit and men can wear "normal" U.S. bathing suits, they don't have to wear Speedos type suits).
I was in Baden, Austria (near Vienna) a few years ago, and found it a mildly interesting place to visit. Has a casino, a few heuringen, some shops, some nice walking paths. It's where the Sacher torte *truly* originated, in Mrs. Sacher's head, before her ne'er do well son sold the recipe without her permission.

Thank you for the info - I have the 2 places mixed up! I am actually asking about Baden just outside of Vienna.
I am interested in getting some feedback on the thermal/sulfur springs there.
Also, does anyone know if this is where the Rose Festival is held too? Or have i got that mixed up as well. lol.

From Vienna to Baden you can travel by S-Bahn (commuter railway) at a cost of 4.50 euros and it takes 30-40 minutes.

Just one caution for anyone hiking in the hills around Vienna (or elsewhere in Austria for that matter). Our Austrian friends warn us that the tick that carries Lyme disease is quite common in the woods and fields around Baden and in many other parts of teh country (or course, they don't call it Lyme disease in Europe, but I forget the European name). Not to scare you off, but take sensible precautions if you go hiking around there.

The Roman Baths got renovated 2 years ago and looked very nice on a SUnday peering in the window (closed). Its close to the centre and I do not see any reason for pre-booking. You can get there by tram from outside the Hotel Bristol, but sbahn is faster - as noted above. As Baden has beautiful rose gardens - I think you would be correct on the Rose Festival. It is a very pretty town and worth a day trip. A couple of my Austrian colleagues poo-pooed the place, but I did not understand why.
