Trip Report Day trip from Paris? Absolutely Lille before January 23rd.

Jump to last reply

I don't really like to say that I am hard to impress, but I have been around quite a bit and basically to the four corners of the globe. And I live in Paris, which is a place that seems to impress just about everybody. (I am still often impressed after moving here 38 years ago.)

Nevertheless, at any given moment, there are people looking for day trips from Paris to go and see something different, which is quite understandable. Many of you have seen me recommend Reims, Rouen, Metz, Strasbourg, Nancy, Dijon, Mont Saint Michel, etc. With the TGV, day trips are easier than ever.

For anybody looking for a day trip from Paris (or London, or Brussels) before January 23rd, I absolutely must recommend Lille and more specifically the stunning exhibition at the Tri Postal, situated exactly between the Lille-Europe and the Lille-Flandres train stations. Current events often make us wonder what is going on in places like Iraq, Iran or China, and we are often pretty sure that we don't approve. But the Saatchi Gallery exhibition "The Silk Road" at the Tri Postal both stunned and enthralled me, so I would like to recommend it to anybody who can get there in time. (Might I mention that Lille is a wonderful city to visit as well?)

Lille is only 55 minutes from Paris by TGV.

Here is my report of what I saw:
