Day tours in Madrid and Barcelon

We are going to be in Spain at the end of December for about two weeks ( two adults and two teenagers). I have been researching day tours on all the sites several come up , Le Tango, Madrid Museum tours, Context, plus some private guides. We would like a tour of Barcelona, Seville and Madrid preferably a private tour of the city and perhaps the museums ( in Madrid). We are not really interested in tapas tours. I usually want to see a recommendation on several sights before I can believe it is a honest one. Anyone have any thoughts on a knowledgeable tour guide?

Madrid Museum Tours (madridmuseumtours.com/) offers private tours, all you have to do is ask.

For Barcelona, I recommend Marta at www.foreverbarcelona.com/, probably the best there is. If she is not available, you can tray Sandra at www.barcelonasandratours.com/

Robert - a great help again as I plan our trip in April. You've already responded & helped me up in Basque area. I'm now on the tour guide search, myself, and I'll note Madrid Museum tours! Thanks!

travelling with teenagers I would suggest the hop on hop off bus in Barcelona. We did it for 2 days and being on the top deck allowed us a full view of the wonderful achitecture

I always recommend the on/off bus -you get a map and audio -in Madrid there are 2 routes and the ticket is good for 24 hrs.My friends liked going again at night when all the buildings are lit up.

Robert,
I tried Marta but unfortunately she is not available. Will try Sandra next. What did you like best about Madrid Museum tours by the way? Had you considered others. The bus sounds good especially since it will be cold.

We loved the Fat Tire bike tours we did in Paris and wished we had done one when we were in Barcelona. It was a great way to get a "feel" for the city while having fun. We loved it so much in Paris that we went back the second day for another tour. I am NOT a cyclist - but I would do it again in a heartbeat. They take all ages and abilities, so don't let the fact that you are not Lance Armstrong stop you.

The director of MMTours is an art historian and well versed in the history of the city. For something a little more casual, you can contact Andres at Walks of Spain ([email protected]).

Actually I liked that aspect of MMTours. We have been in contact and will be using them. I will report back. Marta referred to someone named Miriam and will be using her as well. I liked the fact that both tour companies replied so promptly and addressed our needs. I also looked into Letango Tours have you heard of them? I would love to do a bike tour, we did one in Savannah, Georgia that was great but winter in Madrid would not be biking weather for us.

Sorry, never heard of Letango Tours, but apparently Rick Steves likes them...

For biking tours, you might want to contact spainadventures.com/

I am aware of that and checked into it but they were more expensive for less, plus they wanted to add a weekend surcharge.
