Day tour in Kilkenny
Hello again. I already have gotten great advice on this forum, and now I have a quite specific question. I'm traveling in Ireland with my husband, my 19- and 23-year-old daughters, and my somewhat demanding mother-in-law. My mother-in-law's one request was to see Kilkenny. As it turns out, we're staying two nights in Waterford, and the plan is to take a day trip from there to Kilkenny.
I've been thinking that rather than wandering through Kilkenny and not knowing much about what we see, it would be good to have a tour. I found a bunch of day tours from Dublin, but of course that won't work.
So here's my question: Is there a tourism office or company in Kilkenny that offers maybe one- or two-hour tours? I suppose I could do research and put together my own little tour, but those plans never seem to work well.
Thanks, as always, for your help.

We took the Kilkenny train tour while in Kilkenny in 2011 that Tony2P linked above. It was short but informative. The Kilkenny Castle was also worth visiting - I don't remember it taking more than an hour. We also toured the Smithwick's brewery while in Kilkenny. Try that if you have any Irish Ale lovers in the family.

All good to know - thanks!
Now I have another question. Do you have suggestions for a quick, easy stop on the drive from Dublin to Waterford?
It'll be my first day of driving on the other side of the road, plus I'll be exhausted from flying all night. I'm thinking of somewhere scenic to pull off the road, maybe walk around a little.
Which leads to another question, now that I think about it. For the drive from Dublin, do you suggest the M9 or the N81 for someone driving in Ireland for the first time (and for scenic value)?
If I should start another thread for these questions, please let me know. I'm not sure of the protocol!
