Our Cruiseship docks for day in Palma DeMallorca. Does taking a tram up mountain warrant activity? What steps does one take in this? Should one just buy a ticket for two on that day? Should tickets be purchased in advance? What would be the cost?
Thanks in advance

I presume you mean the train service from Palma to Sóller and then the possibility of the tram from Sóller to Port de Sóller?
The timetable and costs are here:

The train to Sóller departs from the terminal just off the Plaza de Espana right in the centre of Palma. We bought our tickets there, 40 minutes before the departure time. The journey time for us was about 55 minutes.
Although we enjoyed the rail trip we regretted not spending our day in Palma. It is a fabulous city and, on reflection, a day exploring it would have been better for us.
Hey, Fosterag.
I have to agree with Joe. My wife and I visited Mallorca in June 2011 for a week. Although Soller was a nice little town, I don't think it'd be worth the time/effort on your schedule.
Palma is a nice-sized city with lots to see and do. You could also catch a cab (or maybe public transportation?) over to Bellver Castle (it is on the edge of the city and has nice views over all of Palma and the bay/marina area).
A restaurant/bar that I highly recommend is named "La Cueva" (The Cave). It's got a neat atmosphere, great and authentic tapas, and strong sangria!
If you're interested, below is a link to the trip report I wrote when we returned from our travels!

Have fun!

The trip to Soller is indeed beautiful, it takes you through the orange groves and then from Soller you can visit Port de Soller a lovely coastal town. All that said, I love Palma and its cathedral and narrow streets full of tapas bars, and the walk up to the ruined castle is breathtaking (its quite a walk) ... seriously, the views are breathtaking. Its your choice, but with limited time I would stick to Palma.
