Thanks for this. I had read it before but got something new out of it this time.

Many times when trying to express myself in French, I've remembered his line, "There are so many chances to mess up before you even reach the verb." That's just how I feel.

My daughter got me hooked on David Sedaris a few years ago. His books are absolutely hilarious. Being from the South, but living all over the place, I can relate to so many things he writes about.

I remember reading in one of his books that he makes all nouns plural so that he can just use the plural "les"...which as worked very well for me when I don't know the gender!!! It confuses the french a bit, but they figure it out.

Perhaps the only thing more fun than reading a David Sedaris book is listening to him read it. While driving around France 18 months ago, we listened to his audio disk of "Me Talk Pretty Some Day," on all the highway legs of the trip. It greatly enriched the trip.

Just as long as you do not use adjectives that change with gender; e.g. petits vs. petites.

Love him. He wrote an essay in a compilation of Paris stories/essays I just read that is hysterical. It talks about him learning medical French and what he could say (not great conversation starters)!

The book was Paris Was Ours...really enjoyed it!
