Dachau tour
I will be staying in Nuremberg (late March) and would like to tour Dachau. Can anyone recommend a tour guide? Also, we will not have a car. What is the best way to get there?

Their website https://www.kz-gedenkstaette-dachau...._visitors.html gives information on getting there (S-Bahn from München, then bus or walk) and the availability of guided tours.

Do you know how to do a google search? Enter "nuremberg to dachau" in search box and you get the google map routing as one of the top search result. Click the train icon to get train info. Once you get to München, follow the info provided by the visitor info link provided by the first post.
The google search also returns rome2rio.com results which gives you different ways to get to Dachau by train.
For more detailed exploration of the train schedule, use www.bahn.com.
The museum part has extensive documentations of the history of the camp as well as a documentary film given in different languages. Extensive descriptions provided in English gave me time to reflect on the historical context and its contemporary implications. I did not feel I needed a guide. I spent about three hours on the ground.

We were there at Dachau last spring.....incredible,sobering,heartbreaking, all you would imagine. We took the train from Munich, took about 30 minutes maybe, very easy . Spent almost 5 hours at the site. There is a lot to absorb, a lot to read, a lot to cover. I can not imagine how a guide could enhance the experience. In fact, having a guide might detract from the visit. This is a place you would want to experience at your own pace. On the other hand, we were also in Prague on this aforementioned trip and visited Terezin. Terezin DID need a guide and we were glad we had one.

You can go by public transport to Dachau and when I was there some years ago there were free tours offered .
Re Terezin- not sure what you would do in Terezin . I went on a half day tour from Praque and quite frankly that was plenty of time. Terezin is a town of about 3000

We visited Dachau in September on our own from Munich. Its a very sobering experience. You can do the tour on your own and take your time reading a visiting the site. They also offered a free tour but I felt it was very draining by the time we left and was glad we did it on our own. You can read about it along with pictures at http://winenchocolate.com/dachau-con...memorial-site/

We first did DACHAU in September 1970 when I was in the Army. Back then no one would give you directions to find it. You were mostly on your own. My wife and I finally got directions at the Army post in Dachau.
The Germans have symbols on their license plates to tell what town the car was registered in. Munich is M. Stuttgart is S. Dachau is DH. You will see very few DH plates. No one wants that on their car. Residents find other places to register the car.
We again visited DACHAU in 2001. Now it is clearly marked but still very sober.
