Czech Republic

We have received a very kind exchange offer to Prerov. We have travelled Europe a few times, but not Czech Republic. We are not really for the big cities and are satisfied with daytrips, but love the country, people and culture as well as architecture. Any information will be appreciated.

Prerov is a town out in the boondocks and into the rust belt but unless you are Roma you should receive a warm welcome here.

Czech Rep has a highly educated population with many of the younger ones speaking good english. Outside of Prague there is not loads of money about.

Thank you for your reply. So, if I understand you correct, it is far from everything? You should advise us to stay closer to cities? Hope to heat from you soon.

Well the roads (form the EU) are getting better but the big city around here is BRNO which is a university city. Prerov in itself is small and at the slow end of the country. Pop less than 50k

if you want to visit a small old town its ok but Prague is a major world draw and it is at the other end of the country. From Prerov you could get to Bratislava (who would bother?) or Vienna (worth 3 or 4 days)

Prerov is actually not that bad. Nearby Olomouc is a very beautiful and interesting city - lots of things to do and see (UNESCO world heritage list) and not overrun like Prague.

There are many castles (Bouzov!) and palaces (Kromeriz!) in the region. The nearby mid-range mountains of the Beskydy and Jeseniky offer excellent hiking in summer, skiing in winter and all the usual outdoor experiences. Also, you might be interested in the regional folk art.

If you're not into big cities then it is really a nice place for you.

Prerov is not a bad place though it doesn't have tourists flocking to it. I would also vote for Olomouc for a day trip. Lovely town and still pretty small.

You're also not too far from the Beskydy Mountains which might be worth a visit. They aren't very high but there's some nice hiking and the Skansen at Frenstat pod Radhostem.

Personally I love Prague and if I were going to CR for the first time, I wouldn't miss it. Brno is also not too far Prerov if you want to visit a city but retreat back to countryside. It all depends on how you plan to travel around...
