Cruise to Venice, Help!

Does anyone have information on how to get from the passenger cruise pier to either of the train stations in Venice? We are traveling with a grandmother and lots of luggage. Thanks! I have gotten so much helpful information on this site for our trip.

John,

The pier isn't far from Santa Lucia, Venice's only train station, but getting there on foot, with an elder lady and loads of luggage might pose a problem, since Venice streets are cobbled, and there are bridges and stairs everywhere.

Also, there's more than one pier in Venice, which is yours?

If you referred to Mestre train station, it can be made by bus, or taxi, since it's mainland. If Santa Lucia, it can be made by water taxi, or water shuttle. Please check this link, for additional info:

http://www.vtp.it/vtpuk/vtpita/aintreno.html

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Surlok

Surlok,

Thanks so much. The web site gave me a lot of information. We were planning to leave from S. Maria Lucia, but now we will take a taxi to the mainland to Mestre. You've probably saved us from a very difficult transfer.
John

You're welcome, John.

I do hope, however, that your ship docks in Venice the day before, so you'll get to see it. You absolutely must!

Enjoy your cruise, and trip,

Surlok

Surlok,
Yes, we do have a day in Venice aboard the ship. Here is our plan, if you have suggestions, they will be much apprecited.
If possible, get off the ship immediately (8am), go directly to San Marco, hopefully in time for the first Mass, then 'tour' the Bascillica. I have made reservations for the English tour of the Ducal Palace and 'secret tour'. After that, lunch (is lunch at the Danielli worth it?), then take the #1 or #82 around the Grand Canal. No other plans, so far, except to buy a Mask. How's it sound?
Thanks, John

Your plan is simply perfect, and please, by all means, have lunch at the Danieli's rooftop restaurant. There are many wonderful restaurants in Venice, but none of them afford the same view. It's still reasonably ( given the standards) priced, the food is delicious, and the view.. OOH MY.. is gourgeus! Besides, the Danieli's lobby is itself pure artwork..

If you want to buy masks, cross Accademia or Rialto bridge, or leave the vaporetto in Ca Foscari. There are many shops that make and sell masks there, you'll pay much less for them than in San Marco.

Again, have a wonderful cruise, and enjoy Venice. I'm glad you're having an entire day there.

Surlok

Surlok, you are the same person who wrote those horrible bigoted remarks on the "Portugal And Portuguese People" post, in portuguese, then tried to lie your way out of it when you were caught by numerous readers that understood portuguese. Now you are trying to sound all grown-up and well-traveled, and trying to give us advice? No thanks. Most of us have recently seen how evil and malicious you truly are. So please keep your remarks/comments to yourself, and just go away, far away! We no longer find anything you say credible. And for those of you that do not know who this "Surlok" really is, please read its post mentioned above, under Portugal. This person pretending to be a man named Surlok, is really a very bigoted brazilian girl named Cecilia. When she writes to her racist friends in portuguese, her post are full of hatred towards Americans. Do not be fooled by this cunning, deceitful, delusional girl/boy. Please read those posts.
