cruise from Prague to Budapest. where to fly into and out of

Hi so I know we have to stop somewhere(from SFO). Maybe we spend a couple of days. I was thinking of flying into Paris ,stay a few days, one hour flight to Prague.. and then I guess we could leave from Budapest. Any other ideas? Are trains a fun idea..great scenery?

Amsterdam?Munich?

It depends how much time you have to spend on this. Are you saying you can fly nonstop from CFO to Paris?? If so, that's one option, sure. Do you have any idea where you can fly nonstop? that would narrow the list down.

Trains may be a fun idea if you don't take them often and think that is exotic. I don't as I've taken them too much to view them that way. Some train trips have much better scenery than others, some it is just boring, and often trains are in areas that aren't that scenic (at least not right where the tracks are, which may be obscured beside them, I've found). But if you have plenty of time, that's one way to get there rather than flying again.

Prague isn't one hour from Paris by flight, it's about 1:40. I know because I just booked such a flight on CSA, only in reverse.

I can tell you places easy to get to Prague by direct train -- Berlin or Dresden are two. Vienna is another. Munich is not, bus is better for that route. YOu can get there by train from Munich, but not direct.

There are lots of places you can fly to Prague within Europe fairly cheaply, check Easyjet and Vueling. My flight on CSA wasn't much more expensive one-way than Easyjet, actually, I just liked their flight times better. It was about 110 euro, Easyjet was around 80 euro on my dates.

I don't believe you are going to find it easy to get from Amsterdam to Prague by train. That's quite far and will take at least 1-2 transfers, and a long time (10-12 hours).

Amsterdam to Prague is easy and efficient by night train. See: http://www.seat61.com/international-...sterdam-Prague

If you are going for 3 nights, or less, before your Tauck cruise I would choose either Berlin (SFO-TXL= 1 stop) or Munich (SFO-MUC=0 stops).

This would leave you with a train ride Berlin-Prague or a bus ride Munich-Prague.Neither would involve transfers.

Two years ago, I did a quick flight from Amsterdam to Prague on EasyJet. It was quick so no night train. I highly recommend it.

Uh, are you going on a Danube cruise with transport? Because Prague and Budapest aren't on the same river so cruising isn't quite possible . . .

Do you know what an "open jaw" flight is? Fly into your first city, fly out of your second (connecting wherever your one carrier has a non-stop from SFO). In other words, you can probably SFO-CDG-PRG and return BUD-CDG-SFO.

An open jaw ticket will cost virtually the same as a round-trip ticket SFO-CDG, and you don't need to worry about the rest of the logistics.

When you go on, say, Delta or Air France's website — choose "Multi Destination" and play around with the possibilities.

You might even be able to do a layover in Paris on one of your legs.

We did this same cruise in May 2014, but in the opposite direction on AMA. We flew from Atlanta to Amsterdam and spent a few days there and loved it. We also spent 4 days in Budapest prior to cruising and it's now one of my favorite cities.

BigRuss

The "cruise" starts with 2 nights at the Prague Marriott Hotel followed by a bus ride to Regensburg where they board a riverboat for a 7 night Danube river cruise ending in Budapest.

Travelhorizons

The OP is flying "open jaws" but asked for advice on where to spend a few days pre-cruise in other than Prague. I like your advice of going to the airline website (or Orbitz, etc.) to play around finding up to 3 legs on the same ticket. Leg 1 would be SFO to pre-cruise city, Leg 2 pre-cruise city to Prague, Leg 3 BUD to SFO.
