Croatian road map query

Jump to last reply

A friend and I are going to Slovenia / Croatia in July. We're picking up a rental in Ljubljana & dropping it in Split 10 days later. We have an itinerary & reservations, but we will need a map. I have a Magellan GPS which I've used in the US/Canada, and I'm considering ordering downloads, so I'd appreciate comment from anyone who has used Magellan maps in Croatia/Slovenia.
However, I'm a very visual learner, and I'd like to have a good road map, for an overview, and in case major road construction makes the GPS useless (that happened to me in Detroit--NOT a happy memory).
I found a Slovenia road map by ordering from the Slovenia tourist board online, but the Croatian site isn't nearly as navigable. Amazon.ca has 2 possibilities: an Insight map from 2008 and a Rough Guide map from 2009.
I used a Rough Guide to Vienna, and found the book great, but its maps horrible: white roads on pale cream background, awful for quick glances. I don't think I've ever used an Insight map. Any helpful info available?
Oh, and to save helpful people from wasting time: I'm in rural Canada, so Amazon.com or a local bookstore are not options, and I've already searched this on the forum.
