Croatia in late April

we are considering a week in Croatia in late April. What is the weather like then? We don't mind not swimming but is it generally settled weather wise or wet cold and windy?

An alternative for us would be to hire a car in England and drive through Wales.
We are from New Zealand and have seen a bit of England and Scotland but never been to Wales or Croatia.

Weather is quite a consideration as although we would love to see Croatia and a couple of the islands don't want to ruin the experience if this time of year would spoil the experience.

Realise these are two quite different options but would really appreciate help and opinions from people in those parts of the world.

Many thanks to anyone who can offer us some good advice.
