Croatia and Slovenia 2018
The following is the itinerary for two couples who will be travelling in 2018. Would appreciate any advice you can give us for things to do and see. We will be staying in VRBO's or Air BnB's.
May 28-31 Dubrovnik
June 1-3 Trogir
June 4,5 Plitvice
June 6-9 Rovinj
June 10-12 Livek in Soca valley, Slovenia
June 13,14 Ljubljana
June 15..bus, train, or Goopti to Venice
June 15, 16 Venice
Then one couple flies home to Canada and the other couple flies to Amsterdam to visit family before returning to Canada.
We've tried not to make it too rushed. What do you think?

The Slovenia part looks good, make sure to stop at lake Bled or Bohinj when going from the Soca Valley to Ljubljana. How will you move around? I recommend having your own four wheels at least for the Rovinj - Soca Valley - Ljubljana bit.

Yes, we will be renting a car in Split and then dropping in Ljubljana. Have been in touch with a rental car business IdealRENT where the drop fee will be 100 euros...not bad for the convenience of not having to switch rentals. Any one dealt with IdealRENT?

I have not dealt with them but have heard of them. You don't mention a daily rate for the rental car - sometimes that is higher too because of the multi-country rental. I think paying a drop fee is OK as long as you know what it really is.
It's pretty early yet to book a car for 13 months from now. I'd check rates again in a few months say to drop the car in Rovinj or Rijeka and pick up another one in Ljubljana or somewhere on the Slovenian coast. If you are paying more than about $27 CAD ($20 USD) per day for the rental (not including extra insurance), you are probably paying too much. But it's not that hard to get between Croatian Istria and Slovenia by bus, train, or GoOpti to pick up another car. If the drop fee is truly only 100 euros, though, that's probably how I'd go especially with four people traveling.
Your itinerary looks fine otherwise.

Looks good!
I agree with rtt that making time for Bled and Bohinj is worth considering. You could, I think, shift a night from either the Plitvice Lakes or Rovinj, but only if that suits your interests.

We do plan to see Bled and Bohinj..perhaps from our rental in Livek or on the way from Livek to Ljubljana (I can now spell that without checking)!!! I had thought of staying in Lake Bled area but we fell in love with rental property in Livek, and Soca valley looks beautiful.

I am wondering about taking one night from Rovinj and adding to our time in the Soca Valley. It seems to me that there are more things to do and see in the Soca valley area than in Istria. Thoughts?
