Croatia

We are anticipating a trip to Croatia, yet unplanned and wondered if there is a "best time". We were hoping to get away in Spring 2011.....Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We were there in late May this year and the weather was wonderful. Not yet hot but never needed anything but a light jacket or sweater.

I agree with sandyatlanta, late May is perfect. The only caveat I would add is that the sea may still be pretty chilly, even on hot days--if you will be doing much swimming. I think the smaller crowds are worth that though.

I was there in early May and the weather was great. It rained twice at night for a little while, but that is it. It even got pretty hot some days, ie still needed A/C. The water was great for swimming, but then I am from California and everywhere is warmer than the ocean here.

I visited in late May / early June and experienced wonderful weather. I didn't try swimming anywhere. One thing to keep in mind is that some ferries run on only a partial schedule before June, so options for moving from place to place are a bit more constrained.

Whereas we went the last two weeks in September, had excellent weather, and people were swimming. By the end of September, things were beginning to wind down after the high season. So like kja says you have to check the ferry schedules carefully.
