Credit card in Train Station

I am going to Jungfraujoch next month. Just want to know whether Credit card is acceptable in buying tickets in train stations. I posted an enquiry to the SBB contact. However, due to the power failure of 22.06.2005, customer service is momentarily overloads with numerous feedbacks. So, I still cannot get the answer from SBB. Can anybody help? Thanks.

They accept credit cards with no problem here in Spain. I don't think it will be different in Germany.
Anyway, if we are talking about very little places with little or no tourism it can be different but you can have a few euros with you

Credit cards are ALWAYS acceptable in train stations as I've used them several times in Switzerland and going up to the Jungfrau. Have a nice trip. Mike

I purchased several rail tickets at the train stations in Switzerland in 2003 - Lucerne, Grindlewald and Geneva, as I recall - and used a credit card for them all. No problem. However, I got the tickets for the Jungfrau trip from our hotel desk. I got the impression that particular train might be private? Perhaps someone else can offer further information.

Credit cards are perfectly acceptable and widely used for train ticket purchases throughout Switzerland.

Thanks for the information.

By the way, does anyone know the ATM (automatic teller machine) withdrawal limit per transaction in Switzerland?

Depends on your bank and the bank that operates the ATM. I did withdraw $500 CH this month in Grindelwald.

500 CH, (or CHF) refers to the number of Swiss Francs -- the currency of Switzerland and the currency you will get from an ATM in Switzerland.

That is currently the equivalent of about $393 US.

That $500 CH converted to $395.03 in USD on my bank statement. Transaction was 6/11/05.

Ditto to above - used credit card to buy Jungfraujoch ticket last Sep at station in Interlaken-Ost. Up top you can send an e-mail postcard from a computer there - a couple of francs for anywhere in world. Enjoy!

You can also send a snail mail postcard. They will sell you the postcard and the stamp. On the table nearby is a rubber stamp that you can use to stamp your card, "Jungfrau - top of Europe."
