County Down NI en route Dublin to Belfast

Jump to last reply

I will be arriving Dublin early AM from overseas. Will have a car and drive to Newgrange for the day. We heading north and wish to stop overnight, most likely in County Louth or County Down, on the way to our next stop at the Causeway Coast. Carlingford on the IR side or Warrenpoint both look like they would be easy detours off the A1. We were also curious about Newcastle, but it would be a longer drive from Newgrange. Is it worth the extra drive? We are a married couple with a 17 year old son. We'll be tired from our journey. A town to walk about and have a good meal is most likely our only wishes. Thanks!
