Cotswolds: Wheatsheaf Inn, NorthLeach or Rectory, Crudwell

Hi, We are planning a 3-4 night stay in the end of June/early July. We are 2 adults + a 3 year old.

Trying to decide between Wheatsheaf Inn, NorthLeach or Rectory, Crudwell

http://www.cotswoldswheatsheaf.com/
http://www.therectoryhotel.com/

Wheatsheaf is more expensive but the rooms are nicer
Rectory is lot cheaper and has a pool but read in reviews that town is ~ and can hear the highway sounds in the gardens.

Please weigh in?

Thanks,
S

Just wanted to add that we plan on driving around but also doing atleast one child friendly activity per day (eg. Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway) so need to take that into account for location.

Don't know either hotel but just location and village -- I'd choose Northleach. It is more central and a better base for touring most of the Cotswolds.

Crudwell isn't a 'town' - barely a village. Northleach isn't large by any means -- less than 2000 people but is much larger than Crudwell.

If you can hear the sound of traffic on the A429, Crudwell must have a severe shortage of birds. And All Saints church clock mustn't chime - so what kind of a Cotswold hamlet is it?

I'm serious. The background noise in my Cotswold house from birds, rustling trees and the church clock is at least as great as in any inner London residential area: the English countryside is pretty loud (if we invented hedges today, conservationists would try to get them banned as a noisy nuisance) and that woman who blethered on about Silent Springs had clearly never lived in it.

If you think you're going to use a swimming pool in a Cotswold June you're either a sad pessimist (even in early August our weather rarely gets bad enough for anyone but obsessives to use theirs) or impressively hardy.

And what are you going to do in the evenings?

I'd definitely go for Northleach
