Cotswolds walking in October

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are planning a 4-5 day trip the first week of October and thinking about the Cotswolds. We will be in London first and then must return for our flight home. I am trying to figure out an itinerary - I would like to rent a car but not in London - hopefully we can take a train early Weds morning to one of the towns and rent from there.

Our goal is to have a few days of visiting charming towns, lots of walking (we are intrepid hikers and walkers), great places to stay and good food. We don't like spending too much time driving.

We thought we would stay in two towns and use each as a base - and take day trips (via foot I hope) to see other towns. Looking for recommendations.

Also, someone suggested we go instead to the Lake District - thoughts on this? As for weather, which location will have better weather - Lake District or Cotswolds? Should I expect lots of rain in both places?

Thanks so much for your help.
