Hi I am new to the forum, we are from the seychelles islands and practically live on the beach , ny husband and I are wanting to travel to south of france during the june month
we like the culture of the country, we will be coming directly from sez to the cote dazur airport, please can you advise us of where to stay in nice, we will not be hiring a car, so a place near trams or trains will suit us, regarding accomodation it can be a gite or hotel...and we want to visit the entourage, marseilles, cannes,riviera and monaco..also help us in determining how many days we will need to do all this we have 21 days and we also want to tour italy and maybe spain ...

Do you prefer a hotel to an apartment? You'll generally get better value from the apt but you don't get the services such as front desk, room and maid service. I have found quality rentals on ownersdirect.com and nicepebbles.com. You'll see photos of the apartments, prices and availability along with maps and descriptions of the locations so that you know if you'll have easy access to public transportation. Nice is very easy to maneuver without a car. Boats, trains and buses to take you on day trips to all the neighboring towns you mention. Walk to restaurants, shops, the beach and old town.
I agree that Nice is great without a car and you can easily reach a number of venues on The Riviera (Cannes, Juan-les-Pins, Monaco) VERY easily by train. Be advised that European beaches tend to be rocky rather than sandy. Do you have a budget you might share with us? Although there are many, many advantages to renting an apartment, most hotels on Promenade des Anglais do have specific beach property for use by their guests. Both the Hotel Villa Eden and the Hôtel Flots d'Azur, for example. Nice is quite pedestrian-friendly, also.
I think the question is how would you like to break up the trip? A week in the south of France using Nice as your base is one option, and depending upon what you'd like to see, that might even be too much time. Do you have specific venues in Italy you're thinking of? How far south in Italy (or east, for that matter) were you thinking of traveling? If you begin in Nice, it's not at all difficult to reach Italy by train, and the Ligurian coast in particular. But were you thinking of Venice? Florence? Genoa? Milan? Portofino? Cinque Terre? You may, depending on your choice, need to factor in a full day of train travel. Please give your options a bit more thought and post back to let us know your preferences. Thank you.
