Cost of train tickets: Prague to Vienna and Budapest
Help anyone...I am planning a trip for our family (2 adults 40/43 with 2 kids 13/15) on May 2006 from Prague to Vienna to Budapest and back to Prague (due to airline ticket restriction). Can anyone give me an idea on the cost of train tickets between this cities please? thank you

If you live outside the EU the European East Pass looks quite good to me. It is $226/160 (1st/2nd class)for five days within one month and covers Austria, Czech Rebublic, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland.
It is not available for anyone who is permanently resident in Europe.

You can also check the cost of point to point tickets there but the cost is usually higher as they add on 15% fee but it will give you some idea if the pass would be better value.

I have yet to see any DOCUMENTED evidence of the amount of "fees" that RailEurope does or does not add to ticket prices other than their shipping and handling fees. It could be 15% or it could be 200% but mostly the exact amounts are conjectures.

Thanks for spending time to answer my query. I was able to gather the ff info: (train tickets cost) Prague-Vienna $51, Vienna-Budapest $40 and Budapest-Prague $65. All in 2nd class. Should I purchase ticket in advance or is it easy to get it from the train station?

www.railsaver.com was able to give me the train cost but I found an overnight train service from prague to budapest at the www.bahn.de however price was not available. I'm still hoping someone can give me an idea if its better to buy ticket in prague or before europe trip.

It is easy to buy your tickets at the Prague station before your rail trip. This gives you much flexibility if you change plans or departure dates.
Lately many railroads have been offering special fares to increase ridership. Example - Vienna - Berlin 29 euros. Who knows what type of these fares may be offered next May.
