Cost of train from La Spezia to Rome

Would like info from someone who has traveled by train from La Spezia, Italy, to Grosseto, Italy, then on to Rome the next day. How was it....what was the approximate cost?

Approximate? If you enter your destinations at www.trenitalia.com, you get the actual prices. If you trip is many months away, just use the correct day of the week next week. The prices don't change that much.

I tried multiple with different dates. The site tells me that no station matches the one I entered. Oh, well, I have plenty of time. I read where a train does connect these two cities so I'll just have to put it in my plans and hope for the best!

From La Spezia Centrale to Rome

2nd class, standard ticket price ranges from 34,00€ on IC trains to 45,50€ on the slightly faster ES trains.

Direct trains depart every 2 hrs all day long, at :06 past the hour.

I had no problem finding these on trenitalia.com.

Are you typing laspezia (one word) or la spezia, with a space?

There is more than one La Spezia station. It is giving you choices, asking you which La Spezia. Just accept La Spezia Centrale and you should be fine.

I'm having the same problem. I'm ready to book my tickets for July 8th but I can't get through the website.

I'm typing this:
Roma Termini
La Spezia Centrale
08/07/2010

And it tells me "Nessuna soluzione trovata." (No solution found.)

What am I doing wrong?

I use the English link and simply put in Rome and La Spezia. However, that doesn't mean the site will let you book your tickets. It sucks.

>>>What am I doing wrong?<<<

1. You are trying to book to far in advance. If you want to see prices, enter a date within 7 days. Trenitalia will load summer schedules somewhere around June 10-15.

2. You won't be able to book later on either if you are from the US as Trenitalia will not process US credit cards.

Oh, oops! That makes sense I guess. Thanks!

I'm from Canada, but I'm guessing it's the same with Canadian credit cards?

So what do I do? RailEurope.ca has the tickets around 55-70$CAN. Seems like it's about the same as Trenitalia...

In 20 trips to Italy, I've never purchased a train ticket before arriving in Italy. But I'm just buying for one person so don't benefit from as many of the advanced purchase discounts as some travelers. Only you can decide if you need to purchase before you arrive, whether from Trenitalia or RailEurope.
