Cortona Hotel Advice / Information
I am in the process of booking a few nights at a hotel around Cortona for the third week in September. I am traveling with six other adults (seven total). I have found a few places that look like they will work out very well for us, but don’t know anything about any of them. We prefer quiet, laid back places in the countryside. We also prefer, but don’t require a restaurant for evening meals. Has anyone stayed at any of these places, and if so, any comments good or bad? Thanks.

I can't speak to any of these lodging selections but can recommend Hotel Corys which is in the upper part of the city yet on the outskirts from the main part of Cortona to afford you the peace and tranquility that you seek. It has the added benefits of being on the upper part so as to afford you sweeping views to the countryside. There is a small roadside tavern less than 100 meters from the hotel for a relaxing drink ..and the hotel itself has a restaurant that you require. I would also recommend a wonderful restaurant within the main part of Cortona called Osteria del Teatro.

Thanks. I will check Cory’s. I had already checked slowtrav, but there wasn’t much in the way of information about the places I am interested in. I will put the restaurant recommendation on my list. I always enjoy going someplace that I already know should be good (although in Italy it’s the norm, rather than the exception).

My husband and I stayed at Villa di Piazzano and thoroughly loved it. The villa is lovely and the surrounding area is so tranquil and beautiful. It is only about five minutes from Cortona. When we went there in 2002, they did not offer dinner -- only breakfast -- but you may want to check. However, there are numerous places very nearby where you can get an excellent dinner. I give Villa di Piazzano an very enthusiastic "thumbs up." Good luck!
