Corsica - which area should we stay in?

Hello,
My hubby and I are planning a trip to Corsica in July and would love some recommendations on where we should base our stay from. We'd like to be near/on the water. Which is the best town to be based?
Thanks!

We stayed recently at the club med in san Ambroggio. Very nice. If you are not familiar with club med, it is a chain of all-in clubs, french, thus mostly frequented by frenchspeaking.

The Western coast is more scenic than the eastern one. But the most important issue may be to finD available accommodation (unless you mean July 2017).

Thanks so much for the recommendations. The Club Med looks lovely and so much nicer than the one I've stayed in the past, but I think we're looking for something that isn't all inclusive - we would like to spend our time exploring the island and cuisine in different areas Maybe a boutique hotel on/near the water.
Neckervd, we are looking for most scenic area, and it is this year but there still appears to be availability all over luckily. With that being said, are there particular towns in the west you can recommend that have beautiful scenery with restaurants and shops nearby (we don't have to be in the town but close enough that we're not driving too far if we want to have dinner and drinks and get back).
We're trying to figure out where we need to fly into at this point.
Thanks so much!

Choose first the hotel and then the airport. www.booking.com has excellent maps where you can see how the area looks like.

Corsica is a big island, stretching over 100 miles from north to south, so it's probably best to stay somewhere in the middle if you want to see something of the place. The obvious spot is near Ajaccio, which has one of the two main airports.

Check the place out on booking.com or one of the similar websites to choose your hotel.

Thanks Rubicund,
We did look at Ajaccio but while it is a good central location we weren't sure if we would like that particular city enough to stay in it vs other areas? We were looking for the most scenic spots and were thinking we would move around and stay in each area for about 3 nights so we don't necessarily have to stay in the one location that will allow us to get around the whole island from that vantage point if that makes sense.
In doing some research I'm thinking Bastia or St. Florent, then either a day trip or cpl nights in Corte and then heading down to Bonifacio where the scenery looks the most dramatic.
I haven't been able to find a lot of information online or in the local bookstore on best itineraries and was hoping to get some clarity here from people who know the island well
