Hello all,
I need your help and expertise please to know the differences between Calvi and Ajaccio.
I know the obvious from my researches like Calvi is smaller for example...
Let me tell you why? I need to go one week second week of July to one area on Corsica as I always wanted to explore the island of beauty as the Corsican call it.
It is hard as every part is beautiful in its own way. My interests: nature...markets...sandy beach with clear water and with a mountain in the view....cafes...narrow cobble stone alleys...kids park (traveling with a 2 and 6 years old boys)..pizza places (for the kids)...day trip or two to a nearby village...we will hire a car ...also a modern new high end hotel recommendations will be much appreciated please.
As we are with kids, we don't hike a lot as they get tired...

Oh yeah...to help you to help me, I can tell you few cities I like...so you know my taste: Biarritz...St Malo...St Paul de Vence...sarlat...Aix en Provence...st tropez...
In Spain, I liked San Sebastián and Ibiza ( even though I do not go clubbing)...in Italy, I liked Capri and monteroso al mar and sirmione....
Now...ready for your suggestions...

AJACCIO was wonderful.

PRETTY, GREAT MARKET With wonderful local specialties. OLIVES, SUN DRIED TOMATOES, LOCAL CORSICA CHEESES, charcuterie with local specialties, etc.
Cool cafes,

The market in Ajaccio is very well known by foodies.

Interesting Napoleon history.sophisticated boutiques. Beaches are lovely.

Each to his or her own, but I'd take Calvi over Ajaccio, given your interests. While the city itself is much smaller, that can sometimes be an advantage especially getting in and out of the city and there is certainly enough cafés, bars, restaurants (tons of pizza places), etc. to keep you satisfied. And the coastline around Calvi is prettier than around Ajaccio, in my opinion. Plus you can get pretty easily up into some gorgeous mountain scenery and lovely inland villages to visit, plus gorgeous beaches nearby.

Corsica is a very family-tourist oriented, as I'm sure you realize. You'll have a great time either way.

Thank you so much..I am considering goin to moth now!!! Or maybe 5 days each...am also considering 5 additional days in Porto Vecchio to have a flavor of the south...any comments on PV? How does it compare to Calvi or Ajaccio?

Don't know Porto Vecchio very well, but do like a lot Bonifaccio in the south. Gorgeous setting and town, if decidedly on the touristy side of things. If you opt for Bonifaccio, you can have a great half/full day out in Sardinia as the ferry is quick and easy.
