Correct train station from Rome to LaSpezia

I want to book a train ticket from Rome to La Spezia to then take a train to Monterossa al mare. Does anyone know the correct train station that I should book to La Spezia (Centrale, Main Station or Migliarina) when I leave Rome ?

Look up train connections from Roma to Monterosso. The website (www.trenitalia.com or www.bahn.de) will tell you where to change trains. You will buy a ticket to Monterosso: there's no need to buy separate tickets to and from La Spezia (or wherever you need to change).

La Spezia Centrale is the main train station in La Spezia so you will change there - but as Geoff says it's irrelevant in buying your ticket because you will buy a Rome-Monterrosso ticket noit Rome-La Spezia and La Spezia-Monterosso - however it you are talking about discounted online tickets from www.trenitalia then you may perhaps end up buying one to La Spezia and then a another to Monterosso (I do not know how the online discounts, which can be up to 70% if you act far far in advance) work actually but you could end up with 2 ducats perhaps.

Many InterCities from Rome to Genoa and beyond call at both La Spezia and Monterosso. See www.trenitalia.com. Don't change at La Spezia if you don't need to!

There are no direct trains. You must connect at La Spezia Centrale.

Be smart and save money: purchase two separate tickets: from Roma Termini to La Spezia Centrale, you can save 20% by getting the "AMICA" promotional rate (must book no later than midnight of the day before travel; book as soon as possible because the rate is capacity-controlled) on any ES-City or IC train to La Spezia. By a separate ticket from La Spezia to Monterosso for the local "regionale" train.

HINT: If second class at the "AMICA" rate is sold out, try to book first class at the "AMICA" rate, which is only slightly higher than second class at the regular, undiscounted rate.

The ES-City train is a bit faster, but costs a bit more, than the IC train.

Well i did not check on trenitalia.com but on the usually infallible www.bahn.de or German Rail site which is the best i have seen for schedules all over Europe and i can not spot one direct train Rome to Monterosso - plan on changing in La Spezia for sure - but maybe trenitalia.com carries different info? I would assume man in seat 61 had checked before posting?

There is not a single THROUGH train from Roma Termini to Monterosso. You must absolutely connect at La Spezia Centrale. This info is from the Trenitalia website (I checked schedules for August 5 and August 8 and September 4, just to be clear), which you can check for yourself.

I don't see any IC trains between Rome/Genoa that stop at Monterosso on Trenitalia.

Oops, my mistake.

IC trains from Milan through Genoa & La Spezia & Pisa certainly call at Monterosso, but these don't go as far as Rome, usually Livorno or somewhere.

Just did this two weeks ago. We took Trenitalia from Rome to La Spezia, then local train from La Spezia to Riomaggiore. The local trains run every 20-30 mins. You will want to look for the departure train to Livorno. The stops from LaSpezia are: Riomaggiore-Manorolo-Corniglia-Vernazza then Monterroso. All in all, prob a 15-20 min train ride to Monterroso. You can purchase local tickets right in the station at LaSpezia, very easy. Hope that helps.

P.S. Keep a good watch on all your personal belongings, at all of the stations, and don't let anyone "help" you with directions, or putting your luggage on the trains. They all have their hand out, and become quite demanding if you refuse to pay up. Coming from NYC, it didn't bother me, but may if you're not used to it.
