Cornwall to Edinburgh in 25 days ????
Hi just need some direction, after arriving into London travelling direct to Salisbury area. Either stay here for 2 days (would like to visit Arundel and Portsmouth) or travel direct to Cornwall (St Ives, Marazion fthere abouts)for 3 days. Then travel up to Harrogate/Knaresborough for about 5 days
then onto Perth for a few days. Obviously there are days left to slot before leaving the car at Edinburgh airport and getting a flight back down to London. Just wondering not having been into Cornwall for a long time and this area not an easy drive should I make another stop to break it up?? My warning bells are ringing this trip has been my hardest by a country mile and it seems the Cornwall segment is not sustainable within this itinerary. May be better to do another trip and just stay south and taking in more. Thanks for any direction Deb

OK - you have plenty of time to include Cornwall but you do have a couple of treks (and I do mean treks from Salisbury to St Ives and St Ives to Harrogate
The drive from Salisbury down to St Ives will take at least 5 hours, and much longer if there is traffic, and St Ives to Harrogate about 9 hours plus stops. There is a lot to see/do along both routes that you'd just be zipping through.
If you want to do Yorkshire and Scotland one trip and leave Salisbury and the southwest for another visit - that would be good too (and my personal preference). There is no 'right' answer. If you have the time/money to plan two different trips -- that is what I'd do.
••Whatever - I would not drive on your arrival day. jetlag can really sneak up on you. So I'd stay one night - say in Windsor, car-less. Collect a car the next day and drive down to Salisbury.••

Maybe put up your total schedule so we can see what issues you have. BTW last year I was in Portsmouth for the first time (I grew up just down the coast) and it worth a good two days. There is a street in Southsea which has more good restaurants than I could believe, every country was represented. Gosport, Portsea and Southsea are the best bits

Thank you for response, confirming what I thought (I had us doing stupid 1 nighters getting into Cornwall and out up to Harrogate.... waste. Should have just done South UK. Originally weewere to go up as far as Durham and back down through Somerset into Cornwall and across to Old Windsor then home. But Decided We would go Cornwall and up, got carried away thought we'll go to Perth and fly London. Should have checked the routes 1st but we were pushed to commit to the car( our dollar is horrible against the pound) and so committed. Cardinal sin. Cornwall will be another trip. So gutted about the British Heritage Pass that was a terrific pass. The English Heritage I am not happy with and cannot find a property listing but have requested one. I digress, 1 more thing I would ask, we normally get a SIM card but is there a good one with internet for using it as a gps, I could buy maps for the Tom Tom but prefer not to move my aussie maps off.
Thanks again you people are great, (Janis I know you have been there forever, you have helped before

GPS is nothing to do with SIM cards.
Most modern mobile phones have GPS built in and provide positioning data for free (thanks to the US for that). So what I do is, down load the "here" app. Download the UK map file. Do all of this at home tonight or wherever data costs are low.
Make sure you travel with the phone and a car power cable (cigarette lighter or USB end on it) and power the phone from the car's supply. When in the UK turn your gps on but not your data and "PRESTO" it works. Magic!
That is it. No data costs involved. No contracts, nada, niente, nothing.

oh what a shame Debs - no Cornwall?
you do know that you can fly into and out of Cornwall don't you? Flybe fly to [and from] Newquay from all sorts of places including Manchester, birmingham, ]doncaster, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle, as well as LGW.
I hope this might help you, and if not you, someone else.

bilboburgler correct, in my haste worded it quite badly. Great idea you have will try that thanks.
annhig I am absolutely kicking myself as I had planned after our last trip to just do the bottom half of the UK.. But for some dumb reason went right off track. Partly because a lot has change from they last 4 trips with early bird specials on flights, cars ext. I allowed myself to be rushed. But my darling husband assures me we have one more so all is not lost. Actually talking about doing 6 months jumping into europe hmm might have to sell a child.
Havana thanks for the link.
I am now looking at travelling from Windsor to as far as Nottingham and park around the area for a few days ... Than move on up to Knaresborough or a village around there for a few more days (4 or 5) onto Perthshire for a few days then leave the car at Edinburgh fly down to London staying our usual place Kensington for 4 days then home. I have not done this side of the UK before so no where near familiar as the other side. So would be greatful for suggestions on which villages to stay. I am a history nut so I am looking at Burghley House, maybe Lincoln Cathedral or Peterborough (Katherine Of Aragon burial) Haworth (The Vicarage Brontes) Harrogate, Ripon, Durham, Hexham, Melrose, Scone. Been to York a couple of times, Blair Castle. I will check to see what is along the way but would take on any other sights or things to do. Sometimes there are great things that are not on the map!
Thank you so much appreciate it and if anyone comes to Oz I would gladly help there

Knaresborough, not bad for access to a lot of places but the centre is a bit dull (I used to work there). I might look at Harrogate (more to do in the evening), Thirsk (a bit prettier than Kn), York itself (as long as your hotel has a car park). Wetherby can be nice but probably no better than Kn.

Havana thanks for the link.>>
my pleasure, debstajn.

don't worry, we'll still be here.
if you are looking for somewhere near Nottingham, have a look at Southwell - lovely town, ancient minster, great pubs and gorgeous countryside. AND you can visit a real workhouse.

Why Nottingham just threw that out there it is on the way up but really prefer to stay not far from a big town not in one unless it was like a Salisbury or a Winchester. This is what I am getting out not sure of this area. Give you an idea of what we love. Symond Yat - Llangollen, Chipping Campden, Stayed in Denny on a farm close to Stirling and great place to explore from. They actually showed Southwell on Antiques road show! Once I get past here I'll be right.
Cheers people thanks again
