Copenhagen transportation
I have a very early (7:00am) departure from Copenhagen airport...and I would like to know how to get transportation at 4:00am in the morning from downtown Copenhagen to the airport ? Or is it impossible and I should stay out in Kastrup by the airport.

Where are you staying exactly? If it is convenient to the metro, the metro runs 24 hours. Regional trains connect Østerport, Nørreport, Vesterport, and the main station to the airport, with service at least hourly, all night. You could also take a taxi.
I would also note that 4am seems a bit early, again depending upon exactly where you are staying.
If you wanted to stay by the airport, I'd only really recommend the Hilton directly there. The other hotels "near" the airport aren't really much more convenient for travel than a city center hotel.

If you are behind the train station, then you should just take the train. I think that the train leaves around quarter past the hour at night.
If you are taking an intra-Schengen flight, such as to Germany or France, then you should be fine as long as you get to the airport by 6 am for a 7 am flight - any train before 5:30 am should be fine.
If you are taking a flight out of Schengen, such as to the UK, then you might go for a little more time, but I still think you would be fine as long as you arrived by 5:30 am, so even a 5:15 train would work.
About the only flight where you would need to be at the airport 2 hours early might be for a flight to the US, but even then, I'd think 1.5 hours early should be okay.

My flight is back to the US..but thru stops in Switzerland first to change planes....I should find out how far my hotel is from Krongen metro station...I know it's nearby but dunno yet how close for walking distance...If metro runs 24 hours then I am a lot for comfy....at least I have options now..thanks for the time frames...
I am getting the impression also that CPH is a rather medium sized airport and not so frenetic like the big hubs in the US....am I right..?

Switzerland is Schengen, so you don't need that much time.
- If you are checking bags, I'd aim to be at the airport maybe 1:15 before departure. This is assuming that you are on the 7:05 flight on SAS. If it were Swiss, you could cut it closer, but the bag drop lines for SAS can be a bit long.
- If you are not checking bags and can check in online, you could cut it as close as 45 minutes before departure, but closer to an hour would be safer.
Add a half hour to the above, if you want to be conservative.
The airport isn't that big and works pretty well. Security should be somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes, usually closer to 5. From security to the gate should be no more than a 10 minute walk.
