Hi All,

I'm heading over to Copenhagen next Monday and I would love to get some suggestions on where I can get some great coffee, pastries, and open-faced sandwiches.

Conditori La Glace for coffee and cakes, an old traditional confectionary with great cakes, pastries.

For open sandwiches, can recommend Boef & Ost for lunch, they do other things eg herring buffet which are herring fillets (skinned, boned and marinated in various sauces or fried) plus open sandwiches and rødgrød med fløde for dessert. There are other restaurants in this square, e.g. Peder Oxe next door but we like this one.

Also an old traditional restaurant in Tivoli Gardens is a lovely place to eat open faced sandwiches and other Danish dishes, is open in the evenings.

If you want something inexpensive try the restaurant at Magasin department store for lunch, they have a good selection of dishes and open faced sandwiches.

Don't drink coffee, so can't comment there, other than to say that there are cafes all over that I presume serve some sort of coffee. I have heard good things about the coffee at Dag H, and can recommend the food (for cafe food).

For baked goods, I like Andersen and Lagkaehuset. Andersen has branches attached to Tivoli and in suburban Østerbro. Lagkahuset has branches all over the city.

For smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches), I really like Aamans. They have a take-out place, as well as a sit-down restaurant. You should pre-book a table for lunch if you want to sit down. They have really good homemade snaps.

I forgot to add to click on, "butikker" for the locations. I have gone to the one on Gamel Kongevej since the 70s or 80s, I think it's been. And here used to be one right on the walking street, "Stroget", but it's been gone for years. Now, there are other locations.

I get my tebirkes there. And also walesbrod and walesboller. There should be a "slash" through the "o", but I can't figure it out on my computer. And I get a lot of my bread there. Happy Travels!

We stayed at the Marriott and after finding the Illum Bakery on the Strøget our first morning, we had coffee and pastry there each morning despite a 15 minute walk. We also took sandwiches with us from there. It is right near the department store of the same name.

Try their kringlebrøt, wowser! I dream of that stuff.

We went to Anderson near Central Station and Tivoli on our last morning, but didn't like it nearly as well.
