Connecting at CDG from St. Petersburg, Russia

Jump to last reply

I am thrilled we got 2 business class award tickets for an August 2012 trip to Russia. Mom and I will be going on a Russian river cruise, from Moscow to St. Petersburg, we are beyond excited to be going on this trip.

I redeemed my Delta Skymiles for these multi-city tickets arriving into Moscow and departing out of St. Petersburg. The outboung flights are on Delta from Savannah, GA via ATL to Moscow.

The return flights are where my question lies. The return tickets are on Air France and Delta. We depart St. Petersburg on Air France and connect to an Air France flight at CDG going to ATL. I assume when we arrive at CDG from St. Petersburg we will go through passport control & a security check, but will we also need to retrieve our bags and go through customs and then recheck our bags? I'm thinking if we check our bags through to our final destination (Savannah) and since we are not staying in Paris, we would not have to go through customs, that will happen once we land in ATL before getting the Delta flight to Savannah. But since Russia is not within the EU, I started to wonder about this transit connection.

I raise this question because the layover between when the flight from St. Petersburg arrives and the flight to ATL departs is 1 hour and 45 minutes, which I know may be a tight connection, but if we only need to go through passport control & security I think it's possible if the arriving flight is on time.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.
