Confused about etting from Malpensa airport to Milan Central Station

We leave in 19 days and I'm trying to tie up loose ends...hopefully you guys can clear this up. I've been on several malpensa sites and the info is a little confusing to me. I believe that most international flights come into Terminal 2, but the shuttle bus and/or train (to Milan) leave from Term. 1? So, I need to take a "train" from Term 2 to Term 1? Also, would you all recommend taking the bus to Milan Central Station or a train? I don't think there's a direct train from Malpensa to Milan Central. You'd think this would be easy, but I swear, to read the info on these sites is confusing. Any help would be appreciated.

Sandi, It's been a few years since we've been in Malpensa, but it was a pretty small airport. We took the bus to Milano Centrale, about 45-60 minutes, and we walked from the bus from International arrivals. I've read on this forum the train does not go to Centrale. Perhaps someone will have more recent info.

I don't think it is so small anymore (though I have never been there).

The website www.airwise.com/airports/europe/MXP looks pretty good, comprehensive and easy enough to understand.

The Malpensa Express is quite new, and apparently, a superior way to get to and from the airport. Far better than the bus, I believe. The Express goes to Milan's Cadorna Railway Station, near Duomo Square - - do you absolutely need to go to Milano Centrale?

Best wishes,

Rex
Sandi, it's very easy to do it, there is a free bus doing the transfer between the terminals, you will see very clear when you were there, and there is a train to the central station, also easy to see were to catch, I think is the best and the fastest way because you avoid the trafic jams, I did it twice in july and it was the first time I was there

Thanks. On one of the sites it indicates that the express directly to the central station is under construction and wouldn't be avail. till the end of 2000.
Rex, we're catching the train to Verona out of Milano Centrale. Since it mentioned that it wasn't avail yet, I thought that maybe I'd have to switch trains at some point?

In your case, Sandi, once your destination is Stazione Centrale, the bus is by far the best option (you don't want to shuttle to Cadorna station and then drag your luggage up/down the subway before catching your train, do you?). For those staying in Milan, the Malpensa Express is the best option unless the hotel is very near the central station ...

Paulo

As I recall, the driver loaded our luggage in the belly of the bus at MXP and unloaded it right next to Centrale. Not to sound paranoid, but be alert for pickpockets, rail stations and tired tourists are likely targets everywhere.

Sandi, Rex is correct. Large airport now, bus to Centrale Station or the Malpensa Express train takes you near Duomo Square. So depends on where you want to go. I don't remember any difficulty finding the bus. When buying a ticket at the airport, I had to wait for the window to open in the morning. Centrale Station is an architectural marvel of the 1930s.
