Concordia and Fete Imperiale (another Viennese ball question for Molker)
Hi Molker,
With your help on this forum, I've done two ball trips to Vienna-- the first time to Philharmonikerball and Pharmacieball in 2010, and the following year to Blumenball. Now, after seeing my photos, some of my family and friends want to go too, and we are looking at next summer.
The Concordia Ball would be my first choice because of its history and location, but the mid-June timing may not be possible with my work schedule next year. Have you attended the Fete Imperiale, and how does it compare to the other major balls? What is the Flanierkarte, and where is "Stallburg"? Am I reading the website correctly, that the cheapest seats are 280 euros, so with a table seat the Fete Imperiale would cost about as much as the Opernball? http://www.fete-imperiale.at/en/tickets/ What is the price range for table seats at the Concordia Ball?

Hello MadamoiselleFifi
Happy that you enjoyed the prior Balls and look to return to Vienna.
The Concordia Ball as you know is held in the Vienna ity Hall / Rathaus. The courtyard and some rooms used for this Ball. It exists many years. Traditional type.
The Fete Imperiale is relatively new.
This held in the facilities of the Spanish Riding School.
I like this Ball.
Frau Gurtler , head of the Spanish Riding School established this Ball as a fundraiser for the horses.
She is the owner of the Sacher Hotels and associated business. She was also the Chairperson of the Opera Ball for some years.
Her experience does much to make this event a special one.
The Winter Riding School/ performing hall for the horses is transformed into a lavish Ballroom. This often done in the past during the time of the Emperors. Main events are held in this venue.
The Stallburg is the now stables of the horses immediately across the narrow street from the Riding School.
The Stallburg is one of the oldest parts of the Hofburg. It served many uses during its long history, art storage and exhibits, the current as the stables and facilities.
This building was just renovated some years ago. A way to cover the courtyard for special events was included.
During the renovations much history was found in the earth of the courtyard and much dug and preserved by professionals ( old walls of prior buildings predating this structure, implements etc.)
The Stallburg is transformed into a magic evening venue.
Almost impossible to know its purpose.
The night is filled with magic moments in these historical buildings.
Fine music, entertainment.
The Flanier ticket is a " stroll ticket / standing room - less expensive and allows access to the buildings .
I would recommend the Ball. Fine purpose to preserve the horses and a fun night.
A seat is a real plus in my opinion. The web site shows pricing - VIP ticket a good one to me.
Enjoy!

Thank you so much for the detailed response, Molker. I was hesitant to choose this ball because I could not find very much information online (compared to the Concordia Ball, on which I've read so much over the years), but from your description, this sounds exciting.
The part of the website which I find confusing is that the VIP/Flanier/Student prices are listed under "tickets" category, while underneath there is a separate list of prices for tables and seats (ranging from 280/seat up to thousands). Do you mean that VIP tickets (180) already includes a seat, and it's not necessary to pay separately?
So there will be two different dance floors, across the street from each other, and we can wander back and forth between the two?

Some good photos of the Ball can be found at
www.srs.at
Note the huge change of the Riding School to a fine Ballroom.
The outdoor garden has food also for a change of scene.
Consider a VIP ticket - entrance drink- access to the Riding School for Opening ceremony too. 180 note - no seat
This can be combined with a seat in the Stallburg for 280-
Very easy to go from Stallburg to Riding School as this immediately across the small narrow street ( Reitschulegasse ) blocked off for this event 1 minute walk.
If you have visited the Riding School before , you may remember the route taken by the horses from stalls to exercise hall- basically this the same route .
The expensive boxes - most in the Riding School- often purchased by companies, banks etc for special clients or promis. Not worth it but some must be " seen "

Hi Molker,
I am booking tickets to the Concordia Ball for this year (2016) to take my partner and her parents (as her mother has cancer).
My questions is: can I waltz with my partner (we will both be wearing dresses) - do you ever see two female friends dancing together?
Also, do know about the seating arrangements? since my parents-in-law are both frail they will want to sit most of the evening.
It looks like there are different areas to purchase tables in - which would be the best for them to view the space and the people?
Thanks so much
