We were fortunate we have seen to Altamira before it was closed to the public. And we have been to Lascaux 2, Rouffignac, and Font de Guame.
There is a documentary about Chauvet by Werner Herzog called Cave of Forgotten Dreams. It is fairly straightforward until the last five minutes when it makes a absurd Herzog left turn.
Also there is a scholarly tome called "The Nature of Paleolithic Art" by Dale Guthrie, if you are interested.
After seeing cave drawings for the first time, I have always been fascinated by the human need to communicate.

we also saw font du gaume and grotte de sorcier. I was in awe at font du gaume particulary. that the artists used the shape of the stone to create perspective and motion of the animals. also the search for art and beauty....
