Hi. What do you think of these Rome apartments? As a background: I am looking for an apartment for 3 in the Trevi or Barberieni section.

phillyFan - because i always like everyone to have their own bedroom, I would always pick apartments which don't require one or more of the party to sleep in the lounge.

so I think [though I may be wrong] that this would rule out the first two.

Apart from that they don't seem very different to me.

i notice that the last one mentions the Quirinale, which i learnt to my surprise the other day is home to the 6th largest palace in the world. [it's the seat of the italian government and the "home" of the president amongst other things". it is open to the public and might be worth a look:

The first one: street can be teeming. Remarks about small bathroom are something to consider. I'm assuming your third is a teenage boy. '-) But the advantage here is in the separate space. The second one has no living area, so you will all be in the bedroom, all the time. No different that a hotel room for three, but might be a consideration.

The second seems to have exactly the same location as the first. Same entry way. I like the bathroom a lot. I often pick apartments based on a large walk in shower. Washing machine too.

Third: seems quite nice. I don't really know the street; hope someone else does.


I kind of like this one, but no stand alone shower would kill it for me. Interesting location, and not teeming with crowds.

Just my opinions of course. Hope they are of any help.

I suggest you look at the streets where these apartments are located using Google Street view. It will give you an idea of the locations.

The third apartment seems to give the impression that it's near Trevi Fountain, but it's about half a mile away. It's actually in the Monti district, and pretty near Termini station.

The name of the street, Via delle Quattro Fontane (Street of the Four Fountains) refers to the fact that at its intersection with Via del Quirinale there are four fountains, one on each corner. (I'm not sure whether this is also the intersection from which you can see three obelisks.) The Baroque church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, designed by Borromini, is also at the intersection. Nearby, you can see the Church of Sant'Andrea al Quirinale, designed by Borromini's contemporary and rival, Bernini. It's very interesting to see the contrast in styles of the two contemporary architects.

I agree re having 2 bedrooms . Also I could not rent a place with no lift to 1st floor- may not be relevant to you

Apt # 1 - why are there no windows open? You see a street view but no views from inside the apartment to the outside. Warning flag about that issue from me. Natural light is important - as is some kind of outlook. Not a view but just something out the window that isn't a dumpster or eyeballing a neighbour.

Apt # 2 - looks like its in exactly the same block and I don't see any windows open there either. Same issues prevail.

Apt # 3 - Okay but would your third person need to sleep on the sofa bed? If so for how long? They are only tolerable for a short time and if a tall teenager, it could be uncomfortable for them.

I would choose no. 4 - two bedrooms and more space.

I prefer the 4th apartment. It's more spacious than the others and on a low floor. I don't know how many you are traveling with but two real beds are a plus. (Personally, I would never consider a sofa bed for sleeping.)
This one has a better equipped kitchen than the others and a large dining table. It also has a larger bathroom. I don't recall the laundry facilities. The only downside is that there is one small sofa and no other "comfy" seating aside from upright chairs. Not sure if that matters.
About the other apartment locations-Trevi Fountain is a central location but I was in Rome over Easter the Trevi Fountain was in a state of renovation. We walked past it a couple of times en route elsewhere but there was not much to see, unfortunately.

Hi all, many thanks. I really appreciate all of this - I didn't notice most of all your comments when I perused the descriptions.

Yes, our 3rd person is our son - he's 20. While this might sound cold, he will survive sleeping on a sofa bed for a few nights. My older son used to complain about this, but he also has spent many a night on the (I'm sure not clean!) FLOOR of his friends houses and apartments when he would visit them at their colleges. But I will continue to look for true 2 bedroom apartments.

Also, since son is with us, he can help carry the suitcases to an upper floor That would, however, be a consideration if it was just the two of us.

And thanks, bvlenci - for reminding me to always check the location on a map. I don't need to be right near the Trevi Fountain, but that area is very central to everything we want to see. I envision myself heading out some mornings to visit a palace or church and getting back before my son even wakes up!
