I would appreciate any comments on this proposed itinerary for a trip to Scotland for my husband and I.
Arrive Glasgow March 6. Stay Glasgow March 6-7.
Rental Car to Plockton. Stay Plockton Hotel March 8-9.
Drive to Scrabster (route opinions?), take the ferry to Orkney. Stay on Orkney March 10-11. (Recommendations for accomodations?)
Drive to Aviemore to timeshare for stay March 12-18
Drive to Aberfeldy for timeshare March 19-25
Drive to Edinburgh area (accomodation recommendations near airport?) March 26.
Leave from Edinburgh airport March 27.
General Questions. Is Orkney in March a good destination? Is there a recommended route from Plockton? Any recommendations for day trips from Aviemore or Aberfeldy?
Thank you for your help. I posted yesterday (first time) but could never find it when I searched on Scotland.

Have you been to Edinburgh before ? If not, you're not allowing much time to see it. Don't stay near the airport, drop your car off there on the 26th, get a bus or taxi into town & ditto back out on the 27th. It only takes c.20 minutes.
Yes, we spent 3 days in Edinburgh about 3 years ago. We were thinking about maybe seeing some of the area south of Edinburgh after we leave Aberfeldy on March 26. Do you have any recommendations for other places to stay (other than by the airport) or things of interest in that area?
Thanks for your help.
OK. If you drive down the coast east & south of Edinburgh, through East Lothian, it's quite scenic and there are a couple of good semi-ruined castles. One is Dirleton which is in a village with a couple of nice pubs for lunch. And a little further on is Tantallon Castle which is on a headland and quite wild. See www.castleexplorer.co.uk. West of Edinburgh is Linlithgow Palace which is also very good. There's also the Rosslyn Chapel, just south of Edinburgh, but it's under scaffolding & apparently packed out since 'The Da Vinci Code' came out. Haddington is quite a pretty village complete with church, ancient dovecot, river, swans, etc & we like to go there to eat at the Waterside Inn in summer, but you won't be sitting outside in March.
There are a couple of castles south of Edinburgh which are now hotels where you can stay - Dalhousie Castle (where I got married !) and Borthwick Castle. Greywalls is a nice country house hotel which is supposed to have very good food. Two country house hotels near the airport are Norton House & the Marriott Dalmahoy which has a golf course & other leisure facilities. But I've never stayed in any of these except Dalhousie.
Eek, I've just realised you are talking about Easter weekend ! You'd better book quickly - I think the places I've mentioned may already be full due to weddings.
