Coming to London. Drinks, dinner?

I will be in London with my husband October 29 - November 5 and would love to meet up with London Fodorites for a drink or dinner or both one evening. Right now it looks like possible dates would be Thursday, October 29, Friday, October 30, Tuesday, November 3, or Wednesday, October 4. I am also scheduling some theatre and evenings with relatives, but I would like to get a sense of whether anyone is interested and which dates you would be available.

I hope this works out, as I have canceled three potential trips to London and a couple of these get-togethers over the past five years.

Hi Nikki...

Wednesday November 4th could be a possibility for me (I didn't think you meant October!)

Keep on with your planning, and if it works out, then it would be lovely to meet you.

Oops, yes, I did mean Wednesday, November 4. I would love to meet you, Julia, but I will have to see if that date presents any conflicts. I will let you know as soon as I have it all sorted out.

I still need to get away by about 9pm: though Worst Great Western is introducing later in the year one train a week that allows a full evening in town, it's unlikely before December.

Nov 4 would be fine: but are you all envisaging an early enough start time for sensible conversation?

"what time would that be, Flanner?"

Well, obviously with me around "sensible conversation" is a bit optimistic. What I meant was "do the participants think we might start around sixish?"

Much later, and I'd have to leave almost before I'd finished my first sentence - with no time for anyone else to get a word in.

Patrick's point, of course, also stands...

Much later than a sixish start, and I'd be the Dormouse all too quickly.

Is this an example of the sensible conversation I am to expect? If so, I am already there.

I can start conversation, sensible or otherwise, at just about any hour. Happy to meet as early as anyone would like. I'm not working.

Ann, are you a possibility?

Nikki - i have been looking at my diary to see if it is at all possible as I should love to come.

After all, I have only 300 miles or less to come to get there, whereas you will have travelled approx 10x that, give or take the odd 1000 miles.

I am taking it under advisement. [whatever that means].

In my experience it means "you're screwed".

It might be different over there.

Any time during the week I will be there, if you can figure out a way.

sorry, Nikki - I'm working in Truro all day so even if I could get away to come up to see you, by the time I'd got there you'd be ready for your beds.

Shame. one of the disadvantages of living down here is that you are so bl..dy far from everywhere else.
