Thank you so much to everyone who has responded to my previous posts - your help has been great! We are now doing a week in Tuscany, back to Rome for 4 days, the train up to Lake Como for a week before flying home from Malpensa. We've been quoted a very good rate on an apartment in Colico - I understand from the maps and guides that this is the northern part of the lake, on the less visited side, on the trainline to Milan. Is this correct? I'm assuming that the good rate (950 euro for 5 people for a week) is because this is not a well known village, and the agency La Breva - www.lakecomo.info - also doesn't seem well known as I have found absoulutely no reviews! Anyone have any thoughts on Colico or this agency - I have looked at Slow Travel and they advertise there but still no reviews.
Thanks everyone!

You do not want that location---too far north on the lake.
Colico only works if you have a car and like/want to drive everywhere. It's less than an hour's drive to Varenna and Menaggio, but depending on the time of year parking everywhere could be tough. You wouldn't be able to use the ferries to explore the lake, not because there isn't service but the service from/to Colico is too infrequent and not at convenient times. But with a car, Colico is a great base for exploring the mountains east of Lake Como.
So, what did you want to see/do on Lake Como?
