Coastal Tuscany? the Maremma?

Ciao tutti - we'll be leaving Lucca in mid-September for Orvieto. We've made the drive directly before, beautiful, of course, but this time I'm thinking we'd like to detour along the coast and then go east. We'll have all day for a leisurely drive, and we'll plan on stopping for lunch. We've seen the coast from about Viareggio north, and from Tarquinia south, but nothing in between. In looking at maps I see coastal towns like Orbetello, Follonica, Piombino, etc.
Any suggestions for one best town to stop for lunch? Any "must-see" sights along the way?
As always, thanks so much for your thoughts.
