I will be in Ireland this fall (sept though half of december). What type of clothing should I bring? i really dont want to carry bulky (usually ugly) things so any advice?

Any other things I should definitely keep in mind (besides an umbrella and rain boots!)?

We were in Ireland one late Nov, early Dec. We had glorious sunny days where our light jackets were tied around our waists, and some windy, misty cold days where we needed gloves and scarves. Recommend layers, outer layers to include the above.

It doesn't matter when you are there, you will Love Ireland.

It won't snow - through it will feel cold, rain, be windy, be so damp you feel your soul is being sucked from you. It'll also be warm, dry, sunny. Sometimes it will be several of them in the same day. Then again it may be something else.

So it's layers topped off with a waterproof. Hat, gloves and scarf definitely required if you are from southern climes (ie anywhere south of the Canadian border.)

Layers and waterproof - and if possible somehtng windproof. Have a slection of shirts,turtlnecks and sweaters to put under a midweight at most jacket.

Heavy coats are unnecesary since it really doens;t get that cold (by US standards) - just quite chilly and damp. Agree to hat, scarf and gloves.

I was going to suggest to cover your knees after consuming all that Guinness.

Pretty much the same as you wear in the summer, spring, winter, etc!!! (It's not really that cold unles you are from somewhere south of Atlanta, but then again, I'm from VT and have found winter in Ireland almost tropical).

I might suggest purchasing an Aran sweater to help keep away the rain. I purchased one in Kinsale that had a lining and I stayed pretty dry on a rainy July day.
