Classical Concerts Vienna

What would be an economical option if we want to see a classical concert in Vienna between December 30 and January 2?
Mozart or Vivaldi - small orchestra....The ones I have found online are very pricey. Any specific website?
My kids are both music students and I would love them to experience something like this.
The last time my husband and I were in Vienna was 20 years ago. We went to such a concert and it was magical.

As you know, Vienna is a very musical city, and so there are lots of opportunities to hear music. I am not a fan of booking things like this ahead of time on the internet--that is, unless you want to hear a particular work, attend a particular venue, or go to the opera. Unless your heart is set on an opera, I'd wait til you get there and then ask the concierge of the hotel or just look for flyers advertising concerts--very common throughout central Europe. We heard a very good version of Mozart's Requiem performed at a church by just walking up near concert time and buying tickets.

Vivaldi has nothing to do with Vienna, that's part of the problem, what you will get are tourist concerts when you look for stuff like that (especially on the internet). Concerts that are not geared to tourists don't advertise wherever you are looking, they are just smaller ensembles playing in churches, or even other venues, and won't have the kind of repertoire they have in those tourist concerts which is meant to appeal to people who don't really listen to classical music much, and they are usually not full concerts, they may last only an hour or so. I went to a couple chamber music concerts just by reading the newspaper or seeing flyers, they were in churches. I go to things that are free or maybe 10 euro or so.

Also, I didn't look for small ensembles, again, that is going to get you a lot of tourist concerts rather than chamber music groups or soloists.

They do Vivaldi concerts and some Mozart in St Charles, for one place, maybe you've seen that, the tickets are 38 euro for adults. I think that is going to be about the going rate for the kind of thing you are looking, there are various groups that do that now and book several churches in Vienna (St Stephens, St Peters, etc). Here is one, for example

Here is a good website that lists several of these venues with links, I think you may have to pay about 40 euro for what you want, especially given you are there during a holiday and have only a couple days (but student tickets could be cheaper).

Of course going to some of the top concert venues like the Musikverein would also be expensive but I don't think you want that (and couldn't get that now, anyway, probably).

There was an ensemble going to play in Mozart's museum on those dates, the clarinet trio, which is lovely, but they cancelled, unfortunately. There is a chamber music group playing at St Anne's church, doing a Beethoven and Mozart string quartet on Jan 1st at 7:30, those tickets are only 29 euro for adults, your children should get cheaper tickets. That's the best that I can find although it isn't the type of concert you want.

In September last year, we attended a wonderful chamber music performance at the concert hall Sala Terrena in the Mozarthouse in Vienna. http://www.concert-in-vienna.com/sal...ena/index.html
They seem to have something scheduled around your dates.
