civitavecchia to rome
Our cruise ship arrives at civitavecchia,Italy.
We would like to know if there is a good way to get from there to Rome Fiumicino Airport without paying the $65 pp fare through the ship company. Thank you

Hi one,
From the docks, take a cab to the train station.
Take the train to Rome TE.
Take the Leonardo da Vinci Express to Rome FCO.
Train schedules and prices at www.trenitalia.com.

Check out the post "Civitavecchia Port to Rome Central" scroll down to Dukey and travelinow posts. About the taxis from the port to the train station, my friend did this last year and it was difficult to communicate with the taxis and they only wanted to take you from port to airport or Rome & very costly. My husband & I are going to try the 10 minute walk to the train station (& on to Termini) after departing the Golden Princess Oct 17. Anyone else up for this...we could meet up.

travelinow, we're on the same cruise. When we debark we need to go directly from the port to FCO to catch a plane to Catania, so we won't be going into City of Rome, but it might be fun to do a mini-GTG sometime while we're on ship. Perhaps arrange to meet during the day at sea. My husband and I and our two traveling companions have met up with Fodorites in Paris, Naples (US) and in Ft. Lauderdale, why not on the high seas. If you're interested, e-mail me directly at valdisvikmanis at comcast dot net. Same goes for anyone else here who may be on the Golden Princess sailing from Venice on Oct. 5 - 17.
