Civitavecchia Port to Rome Central
We are traveling from our cruise ship port in Civitavecchia to Rome for a few days. Is there anything between the cities that we should hire a driver to tour which extend our trip or do we just do the straight shot to Rome? We only have 3 days in Rome and want to make the most of it; which track do we take?

I would suggest that you go to www.cruisecritic.com and ask that question. Click on boards. Find your cruise line and ask that question there as I think you would be more successful.

Hello Wildman, my thoughts are like TexasAggie, Rome has so much to see I would spend my time in Rome and not take time to do sidetrips this visit. Do enjoy both your cruise and your time in vibrant and exciting Rome!!

I understand it is very dificult to get a taxi to take you to the train station from the cruise port. They want the fare to the airport instead. The Cruise Co. offers a shuttle to the airport for $67 per person. Then you still have to get into the city. Cost for the train from Civitavecchia to Rome is very reasonable. Any recommendations on the most reasonable and time saving way to get from the port to City of Rome?

In my experience the ships will often run a free shuttle service from the place where the ship is docked to the ENTRANCE to the port area.
From there it is about a ten-minute walk to the RR station. Fares to Rome on the train run about 4-5 Euros last time I took it (a year ago).
Rail would be "the most reasonable" in terms of low cost. Are you willing to do the trip to the RR station is the real question here.

We are willing to walk 10 minutes if we can get very good directions from the port to the RR station....hoping we don't have to hop over tracks and climb fences or anything crazy. This will be the last leg of a 3 week trip and cruise. I just hate to give the cruise Co more $ since we can manage a 10 minute walk! So can anybody help with directions from the cruise ship port in Civitavecchia to RR station? ...then we're on to Termini and can walk to our hotel. Thanks

The directions: when you leave the <b>port entrance</b> you proceed straight down the street stretching out in front of you; the water will be to your right.
The train station will be on the other side of that street on your left once you come to it...hard to miss.

hey Julie we are on the Oct 5th trip on the Golden ,,,what a quinky-dink. We would like to get together. We are on the dolphin deck, I think #632...but not for sure. Where are you coming from...like what country/state/city/etc. There are two of us from LA and 2 from GA. What about you?

hey Travelinow, We may be on the same cruise in Oct on the Golden Princess. Thanks for your reply to my posted message. There is another couple (Fodorerites) who are also on the cruise JulieVickmanis who replied to my post on 8/17. We are wanting to meet on our day at sea...Friday the 6th for a drink. Our cabin is on the Dolphin deck #632. My wife Nancy ansd I have been on 2 cruises, one with Royal and the last one on the Diamond Princess. If the Golden is anything like the Diamond we will be in for a treat. Nancy and I live in Louisiana and in Flordia. We are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary on the cruise. With a little research you should be able to hire car service both ways and they will wait for you! Although, if there is just two or less it's not worth the extra $. We hired a car and it was 68euro each way.
