Cinque Terre hotel? Monterosso? Vernazza?

We are leaving for our Italian trip next week, and have yet to firm up our hotel for two nights in Cinque Terre. We are deciding between Monterosso and Vernazza. I tried for availability at Steno and also Porto Roca, neither has available rooms. I'm starting to run out of time. I'd appreciate feedback and information. Thanks so much.

Since we are leaving in a week, I'd really like input on this. I don't know if the Cinque Terre area is okay without reservations, but I think having a definite room would be more comfortable for me. Help! Anyone? Thanks!

I think it will be hard to find a hotel room at this late date, but try www.fishnet.com You will have a great time. If you can not find a hotel in one of the towns of the CT, try Levanto.
good luck!!

It probably is not a good idea to go there without a reservation in September. I myself wouldn't go to the Cinque Terre unless I could stay at the Porto Roca, but then, that's me.

I don't really think there is enough there to make it worth my while without a nice hotel to stay in. I know that many, many people would disagree with me, though.

Would you consider some other area of Liguria? Or would you consider staying in Levanto if you are set on seeing the CT? I myself am partial to the Golfo di Tigullio area.

We stayed in Levanto and loved it. It is less touristy, has good restaurants, is a short train ride or a beautiful walk to the Cinque Terre towns, and has the nicest walking beach. It is a good location to train to Portofino also.

We have reservations for a room in Monterrossa at La Poesia in October. You might want to check it out.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Pasquale in Monterosso last September. We had a great room with a view of the ocean. The hotel had very easy access to the beach, the CT hiking trails, restaurants, etc. The staff was friendly and a decent breakfast was included. The hotel is fairly close to the train station (thru the tunnel to new town).

The one downside is that it's fairly close to the train tracks and trains go by all night long. However, we blasted our AC in our room all night and slept perfectly fine. If you are light sleepers and don't like AC, this might not be the place for you.

Here is their website: http://www.hotelpasquale.com/en/index.html

Good Luck and have fun!

In response to about 15 emails I sent, I found availability at La Poesia in Monterosso in the largest of their 4 rooms (only one available) at a rate of 170 euro per night with breakfast. Is this a decent rate or out of line for a B & B in Monterosso? Just wondering...

It seems high to me. We stayed at Hotel Villa Steno for 125E per night this past June and it was lovely and included breakfast.
For a clean but very simple option in Vernazza but no breakfast, try Albergo Barbara. I stayed there 2 summers ago and it was around 70-80E I believe, for a double with a view of the town square and sea. Room was about normal size for Italy and they have rooms with provate bathrooms or shared bathrooms. Very simple accomodations, but immacuately clean and comfortable.
