Cinque Terra

Quick question. We will be staying near Lucca in a villa for a week. We plan on day tripping to Florence, Pisa and the Cinque Terra. What is the best way to access to CT? We've heard about taking a boat up from the coast. Can we drive to an entry point to hike for the day? Any advice on the easiest in and out with kids wold be most appreciated. Thanks!
